ALL HANDS_MAKE LIGHT – “DARLING THE DAWN”
“DARLING THE DAWN”, the debut album from Canada’s ALL HANDS_MAKE LIGHT, is a collaboration between Broken Social Scene vocalist Ariel Engle and Efrim Menuck of Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
Regarding the album’s lead single:
‘We live on a f**king planet and baby that’s the sun’ is a lyric that’s been floating around in my head for a couple decades. I lived in an apartment once with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors by my bed. One morning I woke at dawn, sat up like a bolt, and heard myself say those words. I could see the halo of orange pink light cut into the last of the night. The lyric is about the uncanniness of living on a sphere. The smallness of us in contrast to the size and motion of planets and the comfort of the eternal return of dawn and sun after the night.

IAN HUNTER – DEFIANCE PART 1
Mott the Hoople frontman Ian Hunter‘s latest solo album, Defiance Part 1, is LOADED with “unplanned” special guests.
Those appearing on Defiance Part 1 include: Ringo Starr • Guns ‘N Roses‘ Slash & Duff McKagan • Metallica’s Robert Trujillo • Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers/Fleetwood Mac • Todd Rundgren • ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons • Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott • Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford • Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy • Billy Bob Thornton • Johnny Depp, and Stone Temple Pilots‘ Dean and Robert DeLeo & Eric Kretz among others, as well as posthumous appearances from Taylor Hawkins and Jeff Beck.
Regarding the bevy of guests:
“It was a fluke. This was not planned. Really, I’m serious. I really couldn’t believe some of them. I mean, it’s amazing what’s happened. It’s been such a buzz. Everybody’s sitting around. It’s COVID. Nobody’s going anywhere. We started sending them out. Slash started doing something. Robert Trujillo from Metallica. Ringo Starr, Mike Campbell. Joe Elliott is on a few tracks. Johnny Depp said, ‘Jeff Beck’s with me, and we’d like to do a couple of songs.’ I know Todd Rundgren, I toured with Todd way back; he’s done an amazing job. Billy Gibbons. Billy Bob Thornton and JD Andrew from the Boxmasters. It’s never-ending. I mean, every day we’d get a phone call, this guy wants to do it, that guy wants to do it. It was like, I can’t believe this.”

SUBLIME – $5 AT THE DOOR: LIVE AT TRESSEL TAVERN, 1994
Sublime‘s 26-track new live album, $5 at the Door, was recorded 8½ months after the release of their sophomore album, Robbin’ the Hood and contains a very early rendition of “What I Got” from their 1996 self-titled breakthrough album.
“What made this even more special is the fact that there was only a left and right channel, straight from the mixing board, so there was no way for any fixes or manipulation to the performance even if someone wanted to. This show is raw, authentic and true Sublime.”
