Metallica’s Black Album Reissue, Tribute Album Announced

Metallica is marking the 30th anniversary of their self-titled album — a.k.a. The Black Album — with a massive reissue and huge tribute album both out on September 10th.

The reissue comes as a deluxe box set with 14 CDs, six LPs and six DVD. It contains the original Black Album remastered on vinyl and CD, a “Sad But True” Picture Disc, the Live at Wembley EP, the Live in Moscow double LP, two interview CDs, five CDs of demos and rough mixes, six live CDs, six live and behind the scenes DVDs, plus a 120-page book and more.

An expanded edition features the remastered album alongside 27 live tracks, demos and rough mixes. The band posted a trailer for the project, plus a demo and live version of “Enter Sandman” on YouTube.

The Metallica Blacklist sees the album’s 12 tracks covered by 53 different artists that’s available digitally, as a four CD set, and a limited edition 7 LP set. Proceeds from the tracks will be split between Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and to a charity of each artist’s choice. The track list includes:

  • “Enter Sandman” covered by Mac DeMarcoGhost and Weezer.
  • “Sad But True” covered by Jason Isbell and the 400 UnitRoyal BloodSt. Vincent and White Reaper.
  • “Holier Than Thou” done by Biffy Clyro and Corey Taylor.
  • “The Unforgiven” covered by Cage The Elephant.
  • “Don’t Tread On Me” by Portugal the Man and Volbeat.
  • “Through The Never” by The HU.
  • “Nothing Else Matters” covered by Phoebe BridgersDave Gahan of Depeche ModeDermot KennedyMy Morning Jacket and Chris Stapleton.

The long talked about “Nothing Else Matters” by Miley Cyrus featuring Andrew WattElton John, Yo-Yo MaChad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Robert Trujillo of Metallica is the first single and there’s a video of it on YouTube now.
